Thinking back on my life, I’m pretty sure I inherited my passion for investing from my grandmother. An immigrant from Scotland who came to the U.S. with nothing, my grandmother saved her money from waitressing and invested smartly. Little did I know that her (sometimes unsolicited) advice about saving and investing in my early childhood would resonate with me well into my adult life.

To say that some of my grandmother’s frugal ways were passed down to me is an understatement. In college I may or may not have been known as the cheapest guy on campus. My frugality is deep-seeded and that’s probably why, in my early 40s, I’ve only ever bought two used cars.

After graduating from Clarkson University with my MBA, I started my career in sales, but it wasn’t until I read The Warren Buffett Way by Robert Hagstrom that a light bulb went off. I started reading annual reports in my spare time for fun. And I loved it. That’s when I realized investing was my passion and I decided to pursue a career in the financial industry.

I’ve spent the last 12 years at a great financial company. But as I saw the investment world moving to a true commodity business, I decided to carve my own path and offer my clients a service where every decision I make is centered around what’s best for them.

I wanted to start a company where every decision is in my client’s best interest. And that’s why Ives Park Investments was formed. I focus on building personalized strategies for clients who are ready for the next step in their life, whether it be changing jobs, selling a company, or retiring. I thrive on helping clients going through significant change. My passion is building customized investment portfolios for clients by using a simple but effective investing philosophy followed by some of the greatest investors: buy great businesses at a great price.

I hold the Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor SM (CRPC®) designation, awarded by the College for Financial Planning which certifies me to provide advice to future and current retirees. I earned my MBA from Clarkson University and my bachelor’s degree in Business Economics from SUNY Potsdam. While at SUNY Potsdam I met my wife, Stephanie. Outside of work, I enjoy playing with my two young children, Lincoln and Andie, and volunteering as their youth basketball and baseball coach.
